Postpartum Depression (or Postnatal Depression) also known as “baby blues”. This is more common than most moms will know or believe. A new mom or even a mom with second or third baby, will feel that they are alone, are suffering from sleep deprivation, they feel as though they are failing to be the perfect mom, they withdraw from most people in the first couple of weeks and isolate themselves. The expectations that you as a mom have made for yourself have failed, therefore you feel you failed your baby. The bond between them and their baby becomes strained, as well as, they may not be able to breastfeed, which causes more anxiety and stress.
Signs of Postpartum Depression
- Mood swings
- High anxiety
- Decreased concentration
- Weight increase or decrease
- Crying spells
- Difficulty in bonding with the baby
- Wanting to harm oneself or the baby.
